At Conack Construction, we are proud to announce the implementation of our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) policy, which reflects our commitment to sustainability, diversity, and responsible business practices in construction. From an environmental standpoint, we are adopting green building practices that lead to reduced operational costs, energy efficiency, and waste reduction. As Paula Shinners, our representative on the CIF’s ESG committee, states, “Reducing our carbon footprint is very important to us.” Conack already made progress by installing solar panels, electric charging points, and introducing electric vehicles into our fleet. Additionally, new apps on company phones help staff monitor work-related trips and fuel consumption, further enhancing our sustainability efforts.  

On the social front, we believe in the power of diversity and inclusion. “Focusing on diversity brings a variety of perspectives, which leads to better problem-solving and creativity,” says Paula. Our ESG policies aim to foster a more innovative and productive workforce while also supporting the well-being of our employees. This includes our ‘Help Inside the Hard Hat’ initiative, which provides confidential access to mental health counsellors, and our healthy eating programme, offering fresh seasonal fruit and nutritious options in our canteens.  

Governance is at the core of our ESG strategy, and while we are in the early stages of our ESG plan, our policies and KPIs are well-documented. We have embarked on a training programme to raise awareness about our ESG commitments among staff and partners, making it a collective effort. We are actively working with our supply chain, attending workshops, and sharing knowledge with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure that our targets are achievable while continuously improving productivity both on and off-site.  

Ultimately, construction is about people. We see our role not only in building structures but in shaping communities, creating jobs, and enhancing the quality of life for everyone. At Conack, our ESG policy is another step towards ensuring a better future for our business, our workforce, and the communities we serve.
